In 2009, the OEM subwoofer was discovered to no longer be manufactured. The choice then went to something eating up what little space there is in the trunk, or an attempt to find a replacement for the 6" sub that BMW put into their Z's. Kicker's CVT654 came as close as anything on the market, and at a very decent price. The caveat is that you are attempting to place a 6-1/2" speaker into a 6" opening. The fix? Trim down 1/4" from each side. Using a grinder, or dremel with hard grinding wheel, and some patience, and you can get this beauty to fit snuggly and correctly into the sub box. If you have the Harmon-Kardon amp system in your Z3, be sure to purchase the 4-ohm version of this speaker. When properly installed (and sealed), this speaker makes not only a workable replacement, but one that offers a bit more punch than the original, and will... I powered it with a Kenwood 150W RMS amp. I wanted the stealth appearance of the stock location and also some good low end punch. For the size of this sub, I was very satisfied. When properly powered, this sub produces a tight kick to complement the very small speakers located in the stock locations on the Jeep. The sub can produce a loud volume as well, which is greatly needed in a open top Jeep. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful: By Scott Capron (Fort Worth, TX USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Kicker CompVT 08CVT654 6.5-Inch 4-Ohm 165mm SVC Subwoofer (Electronics) Replaced blown subwoofer in a 2004 TJ. The dealer wanted $240 for a replacement speaker. Bought this kicker subwoofer on Amazon. The quality of this subwoofer is far superior to factory speaker. I had to remove center console to install. The screw holes did not line up even tho they are both 6.5 inches. The top holes I used washers on the screws and tightened the screws above the speaker like clamps not through the holes. The bottom two screws, I drilled new holes threw the bottom mounting holes and epoxied nuts on backside. Also you will have to clean out the honeycomb square in the center console housing to make room for the much larger magnet of the subwoofer. Only connect one pair of wires a stow the other pair. The center console has twoscrews under the aft cupholder and one under the foward cupholder. |
